Three Days Grace's breakthrough album was their self-titled debut album named ‘Three Days Grace’ which was released in the year 2003. It propelled them into the limelight almost instantly. The album was a big commercial success and was number 69 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and number 9 on the Canadian Albums chart. It was packed with incredible tracks. Their album was given many positive reviews by various critics in the music industry which was good for morale. It gave the band a strong footing in the music scene. The album gave us the hit singles like 'I Hate Everything About You', 'Just Like You' and 'Home'. These were highly popular song immediately upon their release. The lead single track ‘I Hate Everything About You’ was even nominated for the Best Rock Video and People’s Choice : Favourite Canadian Group (2004). Hence, their wheels got rolling ahead with the album.

Three Days Grace continued their success with their third album named Life Starts Now which was released in the year 2009. They took 3 years for it since they lost the last one. This album displayed a softer mood compared to their previous releases. Still, it had great songs that people liked. The album contained the hit singles 'Break', 'Life Starts Now' and 'Last To Know'. The band wanted to experiment something new that the audience hadn't expected. In the words of lead guitarist Barry Stock...
“This time around we really wanted to go with something different than what we've done in the past”.
In the year 2010, they went on a tour titled 'Life Starts Now Tour' in order to promote the album widely. It gained a good traction. The album went on to hit number 3 on Billboard 200 and number 1 on Billboard Rock Songs chart. Meaning, the album had hit an incredible success. Life Starts Now remains their highest charting album to date. Like the earlier album, the audience had different feel for this one too. This album had also received mixed critics from music industry experts. Some felt good while others did not. Also, the album was nominated for Best Rock Album in the 2010 Juno Awards. It shows that overall, the album was a great production. But it won the Favourite New Album award at the same year’s Casby Awards. A great achievement for the band.
With Walst on vocals, Three Days Grace released their fourth album titled 'Transit of Venus' through RCA Records. The release was made after 2 years from the previous album. This album was released in the year 2012 on June 5th. There was an importance for the date and it was cosmological. This date was special because it was the day that the transit of Venus across the Sun was visible for us. The transit wouldn't happen for a really really long time again. The album featured the hit singles 'Chalk Outline', 'Misery Loves My Company' and 'The High Road'. Chalk Outline is one of my personal favourites too, especially it's first music video which has been changed by now for some reason. The album was a commercial success, which was able to peak at number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. Not bad but more was to come. It also got nominated for the Best Rock Album at the 2014 Juno Awards. It marked a great milestone for the album. The album's singles 'The High Road' and 'Chalk Outline' were both mega hits. They remain one of the most watched songs on YouTube with respect to the band. The whole album was made available to be streamed online in 2012 itself (same year of release). Loudwire gave the song Chalk Outline a 4/5 rating. Hey listen, it is an incredibly good song. The song featured Adam Gontier displaying aggressive performance in the music video. It talks of overcoming depression and failures. A lyric video of the song can be found on Three Days Grace’s Vevo account (YouTube). I can't find the original music video anywhere on the internet since it seems to be replaced by the band.

In the year 2005, Adam had gone into rehabilitation for an addiction to OxyContin problem at the Toronto rehab centre named CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). He needed help and was getting it there. Here is where, he had composed many of the songs for One-X album such as 'Pain', 'Animal I Have Become', 'Over And Over' and 'Gone Forever'. The experiences motivated him to express his feelings via the album. A docu-drama on his addiction called Behind the Pain was released in the year 2007. It tells of the anguish that he went through in trying to redeem himself. Adam has been very open with his struggles surrounding mental health. The man had suffered a lot alone. He stated that he had relapsed in the year 2017 and went into a treatment centre. He sought help again after years and was able to make it out again. Since then, Adam has been sober and stated that he has "no plans on going back to a dark place anytime soon".
In the year 2013, Adam Gontier left Three Days Grace after citing a development of few health issues. He couldn't continue with the band or commercial music because of it. He was replaced by Matt Walst who is the brother of the band’s bassist Brad Walst. Hence, Three Days Grace had a new vocalist.

The band moved forward and continued to release new music and tour since then. The group worked on producing good music like they used to before. They still remain one of the most popular rock bands in the world today. Their fan base has touched global level.
The band released their 5th album named Human in the year 2015. By then, it was long overdue for their fans. And of course, again via RCA Records. After the release, they wanted to market the album strongly because they had a new vocalist. They went on a Human Tour to promote this latest album back then. People loved the refurbished band. Just like the previous 2 albums, this one also was accepted with mixed reviews. It came with ayes and nays. But the album was a critical and commercial success and reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart. It could achieve that due to the great tracks it had. The album's singles named 'I Am Machine' and 'Painkiller' were both major hits. These songs became global hits. This album was nominated for 2015’s Rock Album Of The Year (Loudwire Music Awards). It was a great achievement with a new vocalist.
They went on to release 2 more albums after that named Outsider in the year 2018 and Explosions in the year 2022. Both albums had really good songs in them. Outsider was received with mixed reviews while Explosions received positive reviews in the industry. For their hardcore fans, it never mattered and they loved the band anyway. Explosions was nominated for 2023’s Rock Album Of The Year (Juno Awards). Talking of promotions, the band has put in great efforts. Three Days Grace have toured extensively throughout their career. Opportunities also kept coming their way since they were big now. They have performed at some of the biggest rock festivals in the world such as Rock in Rio, Download Festival and Warped Tour. These are popular concerts that draw in thousands and thousands of music fans worldwide. They were scheduled to play in North America, Europe and Australia throughout the year 2023. The band had made it in the music world.

Origin of the band’s name
They were originally named as Groundswell and had grouped in the year 1992. Yes, the band was really old in it's OG form. Groundswell played in various local backyard parties and area establishments in Norwood. Then, the band was just starting out. They, however, disbanded in the year 1995 but regrouped in the year 1997 under it's current name Three Days Grace. By then, the band members had better understanding of the music industry and it was the perfect time. The name 'Three Days Grace' was inspired by a question that ex-member Adam Gontier had asked himself -
"If you had three days to change your life, would you?"
Hence, the band was named so. The band wanted to create music that would inspire people to make positive changes in their own lives. Their idea was to bring out people's inner voice out and give them solution. The band's name points to a sense of urgency with a question being, if someone could change something in their life when they had only three days to make that change. You would start living on a war-footing basis and trying to make the best out of this short life. Possibly like ‘your time is up but here is a grace period to fix it’. That made sense and also was a creative marketing wordplay. Would you fix your life in that grace period or surrender to fate and leave things be? Something worthwhile to consider as a thought experiment atleast.
Their message through music
Three Days Grace's music is characterized by their angst-ridden lyrics, driving rhythms, heavy guitars and Matt Walst's soaring vocals. The band sounds like the perfect recipe for a rock music band. Their music can be described as alternative metal, grunge, hard rock, rock, very gritty etc. The melody immediately gets your attention. Their lyrics often deal with themes of addiction, depression and redemption. They pitch on topics that matter in real life. Three Days Grace's music delves into everyone’s everyday problems of personal struggle, loss and overcoming. To the listener, it would feel like they were singing their own hearts out. These themes are reflected in many of their songs which often deal with topics such as addiction, depression and suicide. Most of their songs are just like this. Their songs are often seen as anthems for people who are going through toughest times in their lives. It is almost magical how they are able to draw out such emotions of the general public.
The band's lyrics are often personal and introspective. They make you think and stimulate you to change your sadness. Their lyrics offer a message of hope and resilience in life. It is the kind of music that people would want. Aggressively taking down your depression. People want their music to help people feel less lonely and to give them the strength to keep going forwards, no matter what. As a rock band, they are contribution positively in this direction.
Three Days Grace's music is filled by their catchy melodies, intense guitars and powerful vocals. It is a power-packed band for the healing people. They are easy to sing along after a few hears. The lyrics are magical just as they are impactful. They have been praised for their live performances which are known for their energy and intensity. Truly a thrilling experience!
